19. Courier Mail

About Courier Mail

Packages can be sent quickly throughout Japan with courier mail. Courier mail is separate from the postal service. A courier delivers a package to the addressee directly. If a package has been delivered while you are absent, you will be left a "non-delivery notice" in your mail box. Call the number on the non-delivery notice, and the package will be redelivered. When you send a package, you can take it to the courier company directly, or you can ask them to collect your package. Should you choose the latter, you will be charged extra. Packages can also be sent from convenience stores.

Types of Courier Mail

There are various courier mail companies. Each company provides a slightly different service. The main services are as follows: (Contact individual courier companies for further information)

• Catalogue or magazine delivery service. Cheap, delivers to a private mail box.
• Courier mail. You can designate the delivery date
• Refrigerated delivery service.
• Sports equipment delivery service, e.g. golf clubs, skis.
